Creative Writing as a pathway to mindfulness and wellbeing.
Why should we write?
The act of writing about significant events, daily conflict or even daily gratitude can lead to long-term improvements in mental and physical health and provide improvements in stress levels and mood. Even the dedication to sit in quiet and write for ten minutes a day can improve overall well-being. Writing is more than an act of expression it is an act done in a quiet space, a time to be quiet, to be in the moment and to write with freedom and non-censorship. Writing can help to integrate the mind, body and soul and leave you feeling lighter.
- Writing is an act of mindfulness.
- Writing is good for the soul.
- It provides the structure for difficult-to-express feelings.
- It provides a memory of significant events and can help leave behind a legacy.
- It integrates right and left brain thinking.
- It promotes self-awareness.
- It sheds light on truths you didn’t know you were even looking for.
- Writing can be profoundly healing.
- You can learn to identify your inner critic and separate them from your true self.
It doesn’t matter if you have writing experience or are a complete beginner in this workshop you will learn to trust your senses, emotions and memories and find that quiet voice inside you. Through some gentle writing exercises, you will find a way to express yourself creatively and then take the tools of reflection and mindfulness and adapt them to make meaning in your everyday life.
